Simple One electric scooter trials announced, delivery delayed

Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup Simple Energy Pvt. ltd. recently announced the start of testing of its first flagship electric scooter – the Simple One.

The EV scooter will be available for test drives in 13 major cities across India, and those interested in testing the long-awaited premium electric scooter will be able to do so. However, the company also announced that deliveries of Simple One electric scooters had again been delayed, and this time around the company cited “safety regulations” as the cause of the delay.

Simple Energy on its social media platforms has shared a schedule of upcoming scooter trial dates in various cities across the country. The company on its Twitter account said: “Ready. Adjust. Go. #BeTheFirst to experience the future with our flagship ‘Simple ONE’ scooter in your city. Stay tuned for the registration link on our website.

The first phase of test drives will start on July 20 in Bangalore, which will then be followed by Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Panaji and other cities, according to the company’s schedule. Interested customers can book their trial slots in their cities by visiting the company’s website. In the coming months, Simple also plans to test in a number of additional cities.

Meanwhile, for the delayed deliveries of the scooter, the company said: “Update on Simple ONE deliveries – Simple is committed to ensuring optimal vehicle safety and thorough R&D before our vehicles hit the road. We anticipate new guidelines and certifications in light of recent industry events, which have delayed delivery of the flagship scooter – the Simple ONE. We appreciate your patience throughout this process, regardless of the delay. Join us in electrifying the nation, as we look forward to pan-India deliveries.

In other Simple One news, earlier in April the company also announced that the flagship EV model passed the 55,000 reservations mark in the fiscal year that ended in March. Simple Energy Founder and CEO Suhas Rajkumar also revealed that the company will announce a new model just as deliveries of the Simple One begin. He said, “After One, our second offering will be announced in June this year. It will be a more affordable scooter compared to our current performance-focused e-scooter One”

Meanwhile, in March this year, the company also launched an additional battery pack for its flagship Simple One EV scooter which claims to offer a range of over 300km on a single full charge. Simple Energy has also upgraded the e-scooter’s electric motor with a more powerful motor.

Simple One’s range has increased from 235 km to 300 km with this improved battery. According to the company, this range enhancement was introduced to help anxious consumers by allowing them to travel longer distances. A new, more powerful motor with 8.5 kWh of power and 72 Nm of torque has also been added for increased performance, thermal management and efficiency. The new motor offers 96% efficiency while operating at maximum power.

The scooter is currently priced at Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom) for the standard variant, which has an actual range of 203 kilometers (up to 236 kilometers in ideal conditions) and Rs 1,44,999 (ex-showroom ) for the long-range configuration, which has a range of over 300 kilometers. The scooter can be pre-booked on for Rs 1,947.
