Sex worker suspected of sexual assault, Las Vegas police say

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) – A man is accused of sexually assaulting a sex worker before robbing her and smashing a beer bottle over her head, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrest report .

Carlos Nava faces charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and theft after the July 10 incident.

According to an arrest report, the victim was near a bus stop outside Orleans when she was accosted by an unknown person in a white van. The man reportedly agreed to pay $100 for sex and the victim got into the man’s vehicle.

The stranger drove to the Tropicana and Decatur area and parked behind a nearby bar, according to the report.

The woman said she began to perform a sexual act on the man, according to the report. The man was doing something she disagreed with and she told him to stop, according to the report. That’s when the woman noticed he was holding a knife to his throat, according to the arrest report.

The man then sexually assaulted the woman as she tried to push him away, according to the arrest report.

As the woman tried to gather her things and leave, the man stole her money and phone, according to the report. A struggle ensued and the man grabbed the knife “and attempted to use it” before the victim grabbed the knife. The victim exited the vehicle and the man grabbed a glass beer bottle and smashed it over the head, the woman told police.

The man chased the woman as she tried to leave and she ran naked to a nearby Walgreens and called for help, according to the arrest report.

LVMPD reviewed nearby surveillance and saw the white truck fleeing the area. Police took the victim’s statement at the University Medical Center.

On July 21, police were in the Tropicana and Decatur area patrolling and saw the white truck matching the description of the suspect vehicle. Police made a “reasonable suspicion” stop on the vehicle and identified the suspect as Nava, according to the report.

Nava told police he was the only person driving his truck and frequented Tropicana Corridor for work, according to the report. Nava said he remembered picking up a sex worker by Wild Wild West and said they agreed on a price for sex. Nava told police the sex worker asked for more money once they were in the vehicle together, which he disagreed with, according to the report.

The police showed Nava CCTV from the truck. Nava said he remembered driving to the crime scene and said he was still carrying a work knife, which was in the truck he was arrested in, according to the report. arrest.

Nava was arrested and taken to the Clark County Detention Center. The victim also positively identified Nava as the suspect in a photo shoot, according to LVMPD.
