The all-new Mahindra Scorpio-N is a big step up from the older version, some variants of which will continue to be sold as the Scorpio Classic. The new Scorpio-N not only has a completely redesigned look, but also a completely different ladder body chassis, completely new suspension, new features and even new engines. The new SUV is a totally new car, inside out, and that’s probably why Mahindra is pricing it high and hoping to pull off a Rs 30 lakh price tag on the road for the premium variants of the SUV.
The Scorpio-N is offered with turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 2-litre 4-cylinder good for 197 hp-380 Nm (370 Nm in manual version) while the diesel is a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder available in several states of adjustment: 130 hp-300 Nm for the base trim and 172 Bhp-370 Nm for the top manual trims. Top-end diesel automatic trims make 172 Bhp-400 Nm. While both engines get 6-speed manual gearbox and automatic torque converter options, only the diesel has a four-wheel-drive system optional on specific versions. The rest of the Scorpio-N variants – including those powered by the petrol engine – are rear-wheel drive.
