Mahindra and Mahindra’s flagship XUV700 SUV has reached a milestone by registering 1.5 lakh bookings since its launch in August 2021.

Mahindra XUV700 SUV has reached an important milestone since its launch last August. Mahindra and Mahindra announced that the XUV700 has registered 1.5 lakh bookings so far in the first 11 months of its launch. The achievement comes just days before Mahindra XUV700 runs for a year in the Indian market. However, the long waiting period to get one remains one of the biggest challenges for the automaker to make the XUV700 succeed over other SUVs.

Mahindra had launched the XUV700 on August 15 last year at a starting and introductory price of 11.99 lakh (old showroom). However, due to price increases over the past year, the starting price of the XUV700 has increased to 13.18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base MX petrol manual variant.

Mahindra XUV700 has burst into the Indian market with massive bookings made in its early days. It took less than an hour for the first 25,000 units of the SUV to be reserved. However, deliveries of the XUV700 have been delayed due to the ongoing supply crisis and chip shortages.

Mahindra XUV700 currently has the longest standby period among all other SUVs sold in India. Depending on the variants, the waiting period for XUV700 can stretch up to almost two years in some cases. By June this year, Mahindra had sold around 42,000 units of XUV700. This effectively means that approximately one million customers are still awaiting delivery of their XUV700 SUVs.

However, Mahindra and Mahindra said the automaker was trying to fix the problem, admitting it was difficult to meet massive demands. Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra and Mahindra Automotive Division recently told HT Auto that it is getting embarrassing after a while to have such a long waiting period for a flagship model. “Any strong brand will always have an expectation, but it’s always a fine balance – what is the expectation and what is the ability to accelerate, deliver and reduce the expectation,” he said.

The new XUV700 is considered the successor of the XUV500. It comes with a new body design, a sea of new features, safety equipment and much more. The XUV700 is the first SUV in its class to offer ADAS functionality. It rivals Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and even the recently launched Kia Carens.
