From Jeep India to Mercedes-Benz, at least four automakers will launch new models in India next month. Automakers like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are also expected to announce the launch of facelifted versions of its Brezza and Venue SUVs.
After a busy April, May will be another busy month for automakers with a slate of expected launches in India. While some automakers have already confirmed the dates, few others will soon announce the official launch date of their upcoming cars in India. Currently, around four models are expected to hit Indian markets in May. The number could be higher with more anticipated launches from India’s two biggest automakers Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor.
Here’s a preview of the cars coming to India in May
Honda Cars India recently unveiled the upcoming City Hybrid sedan in India. The launch of the Honda City Hybrid, which will be the first true hybrid car in its segment, is expected to take place early next month. Honda started production of the Honda City Hybrid. He has already taken the first unit off the assembly lines of the Japanese manufacturer’s factory in Tapukara, located in Rajasthan.
The Honda City e:HEV has a mileage of around 26.5 kmpl. It offers three driving modes that include all-electric, hybrid and motor power. The Honda City Hybrid is powered by two motors paired with its 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The engine can generate a maximum power of 117 hp and 250 Nm of maximum torque.
Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the 2022 C-Class in India on May 10. Mercedes has already opened reservations for existing Mercedes-Benz car owners until April 30 and will be open to general customers from May 1. The reservation amount for the latest Mercedes C-Class is ₹50,000.
The 2022 Mercedes C-Class will be available in three variants – C200, C220d and the top-of-the-line C300d. It will face the main rival BMW 3 Series in its segment.
South Korean automaker Kia will enter the electric vehicle segment in India with the launch of its EV6 premium electric crossover next month. Kia has announced that it will open reservations for the electric model on May 26. For now, Kia India will take this electric vehicle through the CBU route and will only offer 100 units.
The EV6, which Kia says is its most high-tech car ever, offers a range of 425 km. It was recently spotted testing on Indian roads. Armed with a mighty 77.4kWh battery, the EV6 GT variant is capable of producing a peak power of 320hp and 605Nm of peak torque. It will go up against Hyundai’s upcoming EV Ioniq 5, which is also expected to launch in India at a later date.
Skoda will launch the Monte Carlo edition of its flagship Kushaq SUV on May 9. The SUV will look slightly different from regular Kushaq models due to its black badge instead of chrome to provide a sportier appeal. It will also have different alloy wheels and a Monte Carlo crest on the front.
Skoda will likely offer the Kushaq Monte Carlo with the same engines. The 1.0 liter petrol engine can generate 115 hp of power, while the 1.5 liter unit can generate 150 hp.
Expected launches and unveilings
Other automakers expected to launch new cars in May include Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor and Toyota Motor. While Maruti Suzuki may launch the facelift version of the Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV later in May, Hyundai is also expected to roll into Brezza rival Venue with its facelift version. Apart from these two models, Maruti and Toyota are also likely to introduce the CNG versions of the recently launched high-end Baleno and Glanza sedans.
