Seven vehicles parked in Torrox were totally destroyed after the second such fire in just over a month in the coastal town. On December 20, a fire damaged 18 cars that were parked in the municipal parking lot of Potril.

This Friday morning (January 28), the alarm was raised around 3 a.m. in the Llano del Cerrillo neighborhood, near the La Almedina car park, in the historic center of the city. A local police patrol spotted flames and a column of smoke in the area, located just 200 meters from police headquarters. Officers attempted to control the flames with fire extinguishers while waiting for firefighters to arrive. Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters took more than three hours to extinguish it completely.

Local police and the Guardia Civil have opened an investigation to try to determine the cause of the fire and if it is linked to the event that happened just over a month ago in the municipal car park .

The city’s mayor, Óscar Medina (PP), told SUR that the council is working on setting up a system of CCTV cameras in municipal car parks and in public areas designated for parking vehicles. “I am very sorry that vehicles have been set on fire again, but we will increase vigilance and investigate to find the author or the authors of these events, it may be an arsonist”, a declared the aedile of Torrox.
