Revealed: Why a York city center car park remains closed

We revealed last week that a vandal attack closed a car park in York city centre.

Now, more details have emerged about the problems caused at the Coppergate parking lot.

The vandals caused severe damage to lifts, York City Council said – and that’s why the car park remains closed.

Council officials are working with police to investigate.

This also means that Shopmobility, which is on the second floor, cannot operate either. They will have to close until the elevators are fixed again.

The council says it is trying to contact people with reservations to find alternative arrangements.

In the meantime, the closure is costing the council dearly in lost revenue.
